Task outline
To fully man, bond and flight train our red tailed hawk Houdini
What they did?
Brandon has worked hard every session to get Houdini used to being handled and to be confident when around all things like people cars and other animals. He then got Houdini to take food while stood on the glove. after this Brandon then started to work with Houdini while standing on his perch by encouraging him to step up to his glove to get food Brandon then increased the distance. after a few sessions of this training Brandon then moved to the next stage of flying Houdini in our outdoor flying area,
Houdini was a little hesitant at first but soon picked up on Brandon’s commands and flew to his gloved hand for the first time outdoors this was a big achievement for both Brandon and Houdini.
Learning outcomes
Flight training is a big part of falconry it not only gives the bird exercise but it allows the bird to display its natural behaviours.
